How can I arrive?

➔ Which ways can I enter Spain? (#38)

People fleeing Ukraine can come across the border between Spain and France, by sea with ferries from Italy and by air from the surrounding states of Ukraine.

➔ Arrival over land (#43)

If you want to go to eastern, central or southern Spain, it is better to cross the border at "La Jonquera". For the north and west, it is better to cross the border at "Irun". Please, click on the link to see other major crossings.

3. Documents

Which Documents are required?

➔ Adults (#46)

Ukrainian nationals who hold a valid passport may enter Spain with short-stay status for 90 days and apply for asylum or a visa either immediately or at a later date during their stay.

➔ Minors (#47)

All children coming from Ukraine are accepted in Spain. It is advisable to carry an identification document of the minor or a birth certificate. Minors do not need written consent from their parents to cross the border. As a parent, you do not need the consent of the second parent for the child to cross the border.

➔ Pets (#48)

In principle, entry with pets or a dog is possible. For travel within the EU and thus also for entry into Spain, the animal generally requires an anti-rabies vaccination.France (for transit by car) and Spain require a rabies vaccination certificate less than one year old and issued at least 30 days before entry.

➔ How to get your ID (NIE)? (#124)

The first step to move to Spain is applying to the NIE ID (Número de Identidad de Extranjero). It´s the basic identification with which you will be able to conduct any kind of legal procedure in the country, such as opening a bank account, getting a job, renting or buying a house or car, and getting your residence permit.

You must submit an application in person. If you cannot do this for physical or legal reasons, you may authorise another person to do it on your behalf. You will have to attend an interview in which you must answer a series of questions regarding your personal data, and in which you must explain all the reasons for which you are applying for international protection and how you arrived in Spain. The interview will beconducted by a manager who will tell you what to do and help you to complete it in order to establish all the relevant facts.

6. Medical services

How can I access medical services?

➔ Where can refugees receive medical aid in Spain? (#60)

Medical services are availible to anybody in need. If you are located in a rather rural area, look out for "Centro de salut". These are small healthcare centers that are able to treat minor injuries and illnesses. Hospitals are available in larger cities.


7. Transport

How can I get transport?

The Renfe is the state railroad company.
